Cllr Joyce on Green housing

THE HOUSING PROJECT IN NORWICH HAS BEEN HAILED AS A

‘A MODEST MASTERPIECE’

105 SOCIAL HOUSES HAVE BEEN DESIGNED TO THE HIGHEST ENVIROMENTAL STANDARDS

THIS IS A GREAT EXAMPLE OF INOVATION AND ARCITECTURE WORKING TOGETHER FOR A GREENER FUTURE

GOLDSMITH STREET IS MADE UP OF 7 TERRACE BLOCKS

ENERGY COSTS ARE AROUND 70% CHEAPER THAN AVERAGE

TO MAXIMISE SOLAR ENERGY ALL HOUSE’S FACE THE SOUTH

EVERY WALL IS HIGHLY INSULATED

LETTERBOXES ARE BUILT INTO EXTERNAL PORCHES, RATHER THAN FRONT DOORS TO REDUCE ANY DRAUGHTS

THERE ARE SAFE CENTRAL ALLEYWAYS THAT ARE DESIGNED FOR CHILDREN TO PLAY TOGETHER

AND A LANDSCAPED WALKWAY DESIGNED FOR COMMUNAL USE AND GATHERINGS

PARKING HAS BEEN PUSHED TO THE END OF THE SITE, FREEING UP THE STREETS FOR PEOPLE NOT CARS

REAL THOUGHT HAS GONE INTO EVERY DETAIL OF THIS DESIGN

THIS SHOWS THE WAY FOR COUNCILS LIKE OURS TO TAKE THE LEAD AND BUILD PROPER GREEN SOCIAL HOUSING FIT FOR PURPOSE FOR THE 21ST CENTURY

LET US TAKE THE LEAD FROM THIS PROJECT, BY BUILDING SOMETHING SIMILAR AND SPECIAL THAT SHOWS OTHER TOWNS AND CITIES THAT NORTHAMPTON IS TAKING THE CLIMATE EMERGENCY SERIOUSLY

THE PROJECT IN NORWICH HAS TAKEN 10 YEARS FROM PLANNING THROUGH TO BUILDING COMPLETION

AND DESPITE LOCAL GOVERNMENT CUTS THE LOCAL COUNCIL FOUND A WAY TO MAKE THIS PROJECT POSSIBLE

LET ME POSE THIS QUESTION TONIGHT-

COULD WE FOLLOW THIS LEAD THAT COULD DELIVER A POSITIVE GREEN AND FORWARD THINKING BUILD FOR OUR RESIDENTS

TO SHOW FUTURE GENERATIONS THAT WE RECOGNISED BOTH THE CURRENT HOUSING CRISIS AND THE CLIMATE EMERGENCY

WE AS A COUN

CIL NEED TO MAKE THIS THE NORM FOR HOUSING IN OUR TOWN

I AM SURE THAT THERE ARE MANY AREAS WITHIN OUR WARDS THAT COULD BE EASILY IDENTIFIED FOR SUCH A DEVELOPMENT
